PBHL 3006 Public Health Risk Communication 3.0 Credits

At a time when public trust in science and public health is under threat, the ability to convey complex information clearly and with empathy is paramount. Combining theory and practice, this course covers the core principles of risk communication, examines how various audiences perceive and react to risk, and emphasizes the important role of effective communication in changing health behaviors. Students will learn to create effective risk communication messages and to navigate the increasingly complex information eco-system that features growing levels of misinformation. Using a case study approach, this course places an emphasis on developing skills in message design and evaluation that will help students build and restore trust with the communities they serve throughout their careers in public health.
