PBHL 3020 Injury Prevention and Control 3.0 Credits
This course examines injury as a core public health problem in the United States. According to the Centers for Disease Prevention and Control, unintentional injury is the leading cause of death for people in the United States between the ages of 1 and 44. The US cost of injury was $4.2 trillion in 2019. Prevention and reduction of this burden to the healthcare system and society are explored using input from the academic literature, local and national interest groups, and government agencies. Policy, behavioral, and engineering interventions are considered as prevention strategies. Where possible, extensions to international settings are made.
