PBHL 3021 The World's Water 3.0 Credits
Water is essential for life and human dignity. Globally, 25% of people lack safely managed drinking water services and 40% lack safely managed sanitation services. Water, sanitation and hygiene services (WASH) are key for health and human rights, and are key to infectious disease prevention, outbreak response, and safe healthcare delivery. Inadequate WASH, including contaminated drinking water, water scarcity, poor sanitation and inadequate hygiene, contributes to disease burden and decreased quality of life, particularly among vulnerable populations. This course explores how access to WASH, globally and in the US, shapes public health outcomes, equity, and resilience and how WASH intersects with emerging infectious diseases, climate change, urbanization, and broader economic, social and health systems.
