PHTO 1001 Digital Photography I 3.0 Credits
This introductory course in digital photography provides a foundation in its technical, aesthetic, and conceptual aspects. Students move beyond automatic settings to gain creative control of their digital cameras, with an emphasis on understanding the exposure triangle: aperture, shutter speed, and ISO. Topics include composition principles, white balance, lighting conditions, and an introduction to the language of image critique. The curriculum covers digital workflow, from image capture and file management to basic post-processing techniques using industry-standard software Adobe Photoshop. Through a series of structured shooting assignments and peer critiques, students build a technical and visual vocabulary, develop their personal artistic vision, and compile a printed portfolio of their best work.
