PHYS 2411 Waves and Quanta 4.0 Credits
An introduction to the major developments in physics of the 20th century. This course is designed for third-semester students of physics, including physics majors but is open to any qualified student. Topics include special relativity, energy-matter equivalence, blackbody radiation, photoelectric effect, Compton scattering, atomic structure, Bohr model, deBroglie wavelength, wave-particle duality, Uncertainty Principle, Schroedinger equation, solutions of one-dimensional systems, the hydrogen atom, the Pauli exclusion principle, and introductory nuclear physics. The course places emphasis on physical interpretation without getting overly mathematical, serving as a bridge between Introductory Physics and the Advanced Quantum Mechanics courses.
Repeat Status: Not repeatable for credit
Prerequisites: PHYS 1402 [Min Grade: D], PHYS 1202 [Min Grade: D] (Can be taken Concurrently)
