PHYS 4821 Extragalactic Astrophysics 3.0 Credits
This course presents an introduction to the processes responsible for the formation, structure and evolution of galaxies, and the fundamentals of the evolution of the universe. Topics include stellar evolution, galactic structure and dynamics, galaxy formation and evolution, cosmological models, age and distance scales in the universe, the hot big bang, primordial nucleosynthesis, inflation, baryonic and non-baryonic matter, dynamics of structure formation, statistics of cosmological density fields, and cosmic background fluctuations.
Repeat Status: Not repeatable for credit
