PMED 222S Organic Chemistry I Lab 1.0 Credit

The aim is to provide an introduction to the principles of organic chemistry that will give the student a command of its concepts and language. The semester course will cover within the time limitations topics organized around the four major themes: Foundations of organic chemistry including solubility, solids and intermolecular bonding; Fundamentals of acid-base chemistry, extraction, purification and analysis; Familiarize students with monitoring reactions using thin layer chromatography; Emphasize Techniques in determining product purity and identification, using instruments such as FTIR, UV/Vis, GC, melting point apparatus. The course allows for the familiarization of naming of compounds and allows an understanding of the behavior of various functional groups as discussed in lecture.
