POLS 2003 Constitutional Law I: Foundations of Constitutional Law 3.0 Credits
America’s constitution is the world’s oldest (and also the shortest) written national constitution. This course will trace the evolution of the United States Constitution from the Articles of Confederation to its current iteration. It will consider the concept of federalism and examine the debates between Federalists and Anti-Federalists. The class will discuss the ways in which the Framers of the Constitution sought to create a national government. It will examine the structure and content of the Constitution. Ultimately, students will be asked to consider whether a document drafted so long ago is adequate to deal with the problems of current day American politics.
