PTRS 8740 Medical Considerations in Physical Therapy I 3.0 Credits
This course provides an integrated foundation in pathophysiology and pharmacology as they relate to physical therapy practice across the lifespan. Students will examine the physiology of major body systems, common disease states and conditions, and their implications for differential diagnosis, medical screening, and physical therapy management. Core principles of pharmacotherapy, including pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics, are introduced, with emphasis on commonly used drug classifications and their effects on patient presentation and treatment. This course prepares students to understand the interaction between pathology, medical management, therapeutic interventions, and outcomes in physical therapy practice.
