PTRS 9070 Management of the Complex Patient 3.0 Credits
This course prepares Doctor of Physical Therapy students to evaluate and manage medically complex patients across settings like acute, post‑acute, rehabilitation, and home‑based settings. Students build skills in chart review, electronic medical record use, clinical reasoning, documentation, and interdisciplinary communication to support readiness for complex practice environments. Learning includes classroom instruction, case discussions, and simulation with guided reflection on patient interviews, examinations, documentation, and team collaboration. Emphasis is placed on determining appropriateness for physical therapy, identifying red flags and referral needs, creating evidence‑informed plans of care, and delivering safe, effective interventions.
