PTRS 9100 Lifespan Prosthetics and Orthotics 2.0 Credits
This course examines prosthetic and orthotic physical therapy management across the continuum of care, including pre-prosthetic, prosthetic, and orthotic phases, to support functional mobility and participation across the lifespan. Content addresses device componentry, prescription principles, biomechanics, and management of individuals with congenital and acquired limb loss, neurologic and orthopedic conditions. Laboratory experiences emphasize examination procedures, prosthetic checkout, orthotic assessment, gait analysis, outcome measure selection, and training in safe device use. Students apply clinical reasoning and evidence-informed decision-making to evaluate device effectiveness, guide intervention planning, and collaborate with individuals and interprofessional teams.
