Sport is a global phenomenon that both shapes and reflects culture, identity, and commerce across nations. This course explores the international dimensions of sport—how games, athletes, fans, and brands move across borders and influence one another. Students will examine non-American sporting cultures, discover global events and organizations that drive the industry, and compare how sport is structured and experienced in different parts of the world. Topics include globalization and its impact on sport development, media, and fandom, as well as the growing influence of transnational leagues, corporations, and governing bodies on the global sport marketplace.
