SBUS 6606 Sport, Society, and Culture 3.0 Credits
This course examines the social, cultural, and political forces shaping sport in contemporary society. Students explore how race, gender, class, sexuality, and ability intersect with power, privilege, and access in the sport ecosystem. The influence of media, economics, and politics on participation and perception is analyzed. Through case studies and current events, students apply sociological theory to practice by evaluating how sport organizations implement corporate social responsibility (CSR), diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives, and community impact strategies, emphasizing sport as a catalyst for social change.
