SOC 3049 Disasters in an Unequal World 3.0 Credits
This course focuses on the social aspects of disasters, including: collective behaviors (panic, crime, improvisation); the role of social inequalities of age, gender, race and social class in exacerbating human vulnerability to disaster; disaster warnings; evacuation and perception of risk; differences in social responses to natural and technical disasters; scientific uncertainties and technical disasters; the political and economic issues surrounding disasters, and disaster preparedness and prevention.
