TVMM 5200 Television Development and Programming 3.0 Credits
In this course, students learn how ideas and existing intellectual property are developed into finished projects, exploring each stage of the program development process alongside the legal, financial, and organizational considerations that shape it. The course also analyzes how programming strategies have changed in the streaming era, including shifts in scheduling logic, audience driven content decisions, release patterns, and long tail catalog management. Students study distribution approaches across broadcast, cable, and streaming platforms and evaluate how ratings, viewership metrics, and revenue models influence programming choices. Career paths within programming, development, and related fields are also introduced.
