ULAW 2610 Foundations of U.S. Law: Legislation and Regulation 3.0 Credits
This class introduces students to lawmaking in the modern U.S. legal system, with an emphasis on statutes, regulations, and the tools lawmakers and lawyers use to draft and interpret them. Students will learn how statutes are drafted, debated, and passed, and develop a working understanding of the major theories and techniques of statutory interpretation. The course also serves as an introduction to the structure and function of administrative agencies and how they fit into the broader constitutional system, including an exploration of current debates about agency authority, judicial deference, and the separation of powers.
