ULAW 3510 Rights of the Accused 3.0 Credits
This course examines the constitutional rights of individuals accused of crimes. Through Socratic discussions, case readings, and analysis of current events, students will explore how these rights protect—or fail to protect—individuals involved in the criminal legal system. The course will foster critical thinking about the country’s attempts to strike an ever-evolving balance between public safety, constitutional protections, and the rights of the accused. Students will develop a thorough, nuanced understanding of the legal, ethical, racial, and socioeconomic dimensions of criminal procedure and will be equipped to make thoughtful, critical assessments of the role of constitutional protections in achieving justice in the legal system.
