VSD 5000 Anatomy and Physiology of the Vestibular System 1.5 Credit
The vestibular system is fundamental for maintaining balance, stabilizing gaze, and enabling spatial orientation—functions essential for safe movement and everyday life. For audiologists, a deep understanding of vestibular anatomy and physiology is critical for interpreting vestibular test results and managing patients with dizziness and balance disorders. This intensive course examines the structure and function of the peripheral labyrinth and central vestibular pathways, emphasizing neural mechanisms underlying eye movements, posture, locomotion, and perception of motion. Students will integrate current research with clinical perspectives to understand how vestibular signals are processed, how dysfunction manifests, and how compensation occurs following vestibular injury.
