VSD 5001 Pathologies of the Vestibular System 1.5 Credit
Disorders of the vestibular system are among the most common causes of dizziness, vertigo, and balance dysfunction, significantly impacting patient quality of life and presenting complex diagnostic challenges for clinicians. This course provides an examination of vestibular pathology with emphasis on mechanisms of disease, clinical presentation, diagnostic methodology, and evidence-based management. Students will critically analyze both peripheral and central vestibular disorders through integration of pathophysiology, clinical findings, and laboratory evaluation. The course emphasizes development of advanced diagnostic reasoning and clinical decision-making skills necessary for effective assessment and management of patients with dizziness and balance disorders.
