VSD 5002 Basic Vestibular Diagnostics 1.5 Credit
Disorders of the vestibular system are a major cause of dizziness, imbalance and falls, making accurate vestibular assessment essential for clinicians across audiology, neurology, otolaryngology and rehabilitation disciplines. This course introduces the theoretical foundations and clinical application of basic vestibular diagnostic principles. Students will examine the physiological basis of eye movement control, positional assessment, and vestibular reflex function. Emphasis is placed on understanding vestibular pathways, administering bedside evaluations of vestibulo-ocular and vestibulo-spinal reflexes, and interpreting clinical findings. Through case-based analysis and applied learning, students develop foundational competencies for recognizing patterns of peripheral and central vestibular dysfunction.
