This survey course examines the evolution of architectural and urban thought and form in light of changing human values and institutions, with particular attention paid to materials, technology, meaning, and use. It explores global built environments from the early Medieval period (9th century CE) through the 18th century in Europe, the Americas, Asia, and Africa.
