About the Program

The MD-MS in Medical Research (MD-MS) dual-degree program is designed to prepare physician scientists for careers as lifetime learners. The program is built on the foundation that clinical medicine and biomedical research enjoy a unique synergy. Physician scientists are uniquely poised to recognize, understand, apply and expand clinical applications of basic research or identify novel or emerging areas of scientific inquiry that are needed to support clinical efforts.

The MD-MS degree in Medical Research accepts Drexel medical students who are in good academic standing, following their completion of the required medical school coursework as outlined in the plan of study. Qualified students transfer into the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences and Professional Studies, where they are enrolled in the second year of the MS in Medical Research program. At the end of this year, following successful completion of the required coursework, students are eligible for the Master of Science in Medical Research degree. At the conclusion of this one-year course of study, students transfer back to the medical school to complete their requirements for the MD degree.
