CMGT 3601 Building Systems 3.0 Credits

This course introduces the environmental principles and building-physics fundamentals that shape high-performance design. Students analyze climate and site data; solar geometry and shading; heat transfer and thermal mass; ventilation and air movement; daylighting, glare control, and electric-lighting basics; indoor air quality and psychrometrics. Emphasis is on passive strategies, envelope performance, and translating climate analysis into architectural form, assemblies, and detailing. Coursework builds fluency with performance assessment tools and codes related to comfort and ventilation, preparing students to document and evaluate environmental outcomes.
