IS 1500 Introduction to Information 3.0 Credits
Introduces students to the study of information as a social and technical phenomenon. Through case-based instruction drawing on historical and contemporary examples, the course examines how information is created, structured, managed, and used across organizational, community, and societal contexts. Students are introduced to major theories of information—including mathematical, computational, and social approaches—and to core subfields within the broader study of information. Emphasis is placed on understanding how people, information, and technology interact to shape information infrastructures, institutions, and everyday life in an evolving information society.
