MUSC 2311 The Art and Craft of Songwriting 3.0 Credits

This course explores the art and craft of songwriting through a combination of creative composition and analytical listening. Students learn the fundamental elements of song construction—form, melody, lyrics, harmony, rhythm, and prosody—while examining how cultural, historical, and emotional contexts influence the meaning and impact of songs. Weekly analysis of influential works from various genres and eras provides insight into the qualities that make songs resonate and endure.
