This course surveys musical traditions from around the world within their cultural contexts, featuring selected music and relevant dance genres from Africa, the Americas, Europe, Asia, and Oceania. The course is approached from an ethnomusicological perspective.

The Music Performance minor is designed for students whose primary musical study at Drexel involves performing in music ensembles. Most credits are earned through participation in ensembles, which may be repeated for credit. Additionally, students complete 2–4 credits from practice/making courses and 3 credits in history/culture. Performance teaches valuable skills such as collaboration, cross-cultural communication, team building, and the understanding that individual abilities contribute to a greater whole. Other required courses promote critical thinking and cultural understanding. These skills complement any student’s major and career aspirations.
