MUSC 2411 European Classical Music History 3.0 Credits

This course surveys and analyzes compositions from antiquity to the modern era in European music history. Following an introduction to essential musical vocabulary, students will study selected masterpieces of Western music to gain a deeper appreciation of the evolution of musical styles.

Most credits are earned through participation in ensembles, which may be repeated for credit. Additionally, students complete 2–4 credits from practice/making courses and 3 credits in history/culture. Performance teaches valuable skills such as collaboration, cross-cultural communication, team building, and the understanding that individual abilities contribute to a greater whole. Other required courses promote critical thinking and cultural understanding. These skills complement any student’s major and career aspirations.
