NURS 2000 Pathophysiology and the Science of Human Response 3.0 Credits

This course builds upon the theoretical foundations of human anatomy, physiology, and microbiology by addressing physical effects and responses to alterations occurring in select body systems. The physical effects of disrupted homeostasis, methods to identify the altered body responses, and therapeutic methods to correct the disruption to homeostasis are explored from a nursing lens.

This minor will offer students an introduction to aspects of poetry, prose, and expressive writing that can contribute to human, health and well-being. Students will learn about different genres of literature, as they relate to the diversity of human experiences, as well as how creative expression can be a resource for resilience and restoration. In addition, students will learn strategies to engage with writing and reading as lifelong skills for self-care and personal development. Students will learn how poetry, prose, and expressive writing can be therapeutic and enhance health and well-being; basic awareness of group dynamics; introductory therapeutic facilitation skills; the role of narratives in human lives, understanding of the range of human emotions; self-regulation; interpersonal communication; and; intrapersonal awareness. This minor can be completed in conjunction with a wide range of majors including but not limited to English, Psychology, Health Sciences, Nursing, Sociology, General Studies, Philosophy, Communication, Global public health, Law, Criminal Justice, Business, Arts, Education, and Health Services Administration.
